How to get New Members

Being able to get new members is multifaceted. Meaning there are many ways to do it. I’ll highlight a few different ways.

Going to games to find New Members:

    • Watch a game or two to figure if they are MAP quality players
      • If they are MAP players find the parent (Use Recruiting Google Doc for reference)
      • Each player and parent is different in what they want
        • Find out what makes them tick (kids or parents goals)
          • Once you figure that out, explain to them how you can help them.
          • Younger kids’ parents might like the fact they can drop their kid off for 3 hours at one place.
          • Carpools and Schedule are very important
        • Do they really need the off-ice workouts to be able to play Juniors or college? (For Example, the Andover boys were all ready very good players, but really needed to get stronger, so sold them on the fact they can do that with us and have the ice)
        • Find out what you can sell to them (For example, a scout mentioned to me that he didn’t like a kid’s body language; I then used it as a recruiting tool to take to the parent. Pulled the dad aside and told  him what the scout said. That gave me the opportunity to earn his trust.

  • WORK TO RECRUIT THE BEST PLAYERS (You get the best one, more players will want to come, it’s a trickle down effect.)

Bantam Preview:

  • Invite good outside players to play in the BP
    • Mention it’s a good way to meet our Members and staff in a very competitive atmosphere
    • Meet parents at the Preview and build a relationship, mention you are interested in having their son train with us.
    • Offer free MAP sessions for them to sign up for the preview
    • Offer a trial session after they completed the BP
      • Having them come in and see what we are about is a great way to introduce them to our actual program
    • Sometimes it takes a year or 2 to get them; b/c you built that relationship you might have an opportunity to work with them down the road.

High School Preview:

  • Invite good players to play in the HS Preview
    • Mention it’s a good way to meet our Members and staff in a very competitive atmosphere
    • Meet parents at the HSP and build a relationship, mention you are interested in having their son train with us.
      • Meeting them now is also a good way to know who they are once the season starts up and see them at games.
    • Since training is over you can’t offer them to try out the program, but you can tell them you can get them in for a cheaper price.

Free Trial for sessions or Game days:

  • This is why it’s important to get contact information and put it on Basecamp. Gives you an opportunity to reach out to people we want in our program
  • Offering free trials is away for players to see what we do
  • By waiting until August there tends to be good numbers and experience for outside kids
  • Game Days are great days for younger players to come in.
