MEGA: Running tryouts

Running Tryouts

 

  1. Connect with staff thats suppose to work the tryouts
    1. Expectations, needs (computer), location, times, share google sheet
      1. Have paper tryout sheets in case someone forgets computer or computer crashes
      2. Bring your own computer/other tablets for the evaluators to use in case they forget or computer crashes
  2. Arrive to the rink 45 min early
    1. Have any staff arrive at least 30 min before to make sure all is situated for them
  3. Arena arrival connect with Goalie Director or whoever is in charge of the association
    1. Connect with shooters for the tryout
      1. Expectations, Who is running their specific drills
    2. Make sure numbers of goalies are same with what we got
      1. Ask if any changes occurred because of a lost jersey, too small, etc.
  4. Have all MEGA staff meet to go over scoring sheets
    1. Assign Nets
    2. Scoring system (1-10,etc.)
    3. Different Ways to watch nets
  5. Once on the ice, bring goalies into group to talk expectations
  6. 15 min of movement to warm goalies up
  7. Split into groups based upon numbers/age level
    1. Explain to all the goalies before they go to their stations that they will do a certain amount of reps then switch
      1. Try to get through the drill twice on one side then switch to the other
    2. Make sure goalies in middle stations keep pucks in their area for shooters
    3. Each station should be around 10-12 minutes or until all evaluators are good watching their station
  8. Once stations begin facilitate the drills
    1. Expectations
      1. Make sure shooters are giving the goalies proper time to get set
      2. Make sure they are running the right drill
      3. Make sure they are shooting pucks in the right spot
      4. Make sure they are switching sides if the drill only works out of one side at a time
    2. Move nets around in middle nets to make sure the ice doesn’t get bad
    3. Gather pucks for stations if running low
    4. Ask evaluators if they are good on stations
      1. Thumbs up or thumbs down
      2. Ask if they need to watch a specific goalie
    5. Blow whistle to stop stations
      1. Direct goalies on where they should go
  9. Once completed with station work for the hour have shooters pick up pucks and have goalies gather in middle
  10. Log in all the data for the association
  11.  Email the people a PDF copy of all the numbers and notes

 

Evaluate Skills/Games

 

Skills

  1. Once arrived at the rink meet with whoever is running the skills tryout
  2. Discuss the procedure of how to evaluate
    1. What station you have
    2. Access to google sheet or papers
    3. Scoring System
    4. How to add notes/numbers properly
    5. Asking for more time for your station to evaluate
    6. Make any number changes to sheet
  3. Once station work starts begin evaluating
    1. Locate what net your watching
    2. Make sure your on the correct “age group” sheet that’s at the net your watching
      1. Have all age group sheets open above in the tabs
    3. Make sure your on the correct “net tab” on the google sheet
    4. Double check the numbers you have at your station
    5. Take notes first before writing in numbers
      1. Notes help coaches make decisions so be in depth
    6. Once you’ve seen goalies do a round of the drill start plugging in numbers based on what you saw and the notes you wrote about them
      1. Make sure you are putting the right numbers into the correct goalies number
    7. When complete double check numbers
      1. Check you put in the correct numbers/notes for the goalies
    8. Once done let the on-ice coach know your good
      1. If need more time ask for it or ask for a specific goalie you need to watch
  4. Once the session is done make sure all numbers are added up correctly for the coach in the correct tab
    1. This will help for the coach afterwards just double check instead of adding plus double checking
      1. Less error
    2. Make sure coach can see all your notes and numbers before you leave

    2. Double check the goalie numbers for the specific game
    3. Take notes first before writing in numbers
      1. Notes help coaches make decisions so be in depth
    4. Once you’ve seen goalies do a round in the net start plugging in numbers based on what you saw and the notes you wrote about them
      1. Make sure you are putting the right numbers into the correct goalies number
    5. When complete double check numbers
      1. Check you put in the correct numbers/notes for the goalies

 

  1. Once game sessions are complete, ask association leaders on who you send the PDF copy of notes/numbers too
    1. Make sure all numbers are totalled and notes are able to be seen
  2. Send email with PDF forms to association
